A Holiday Tradition Returns to the Washington State History Museum |
The Washington State History Museum in Tacoma is set to host the 29th Annual Model Train Festival from December 19, 2025, through January 1, 2026.
Closed on December 24 and 25, this cherished event invites visitors to explore the intricate world of model railroads.
Enthusiasts and families alike can marvel at the detailed layouts presented by various railroad clubs from the Puget Sound region.
Each floor of the museum will feature unique displays, including the Kitsap Live Steamers' 7.5-inch gauge engines and the Mount Rainier N-Scale layout, showcasing miniature scenes of Western Washington.
Notably, the museum's fifth floor houses Washington's largest permanent model train layout, operated by the Puget Sound Model Railroad Engineers.
Train operators will be available to answer questions and share insights.
In addition to the exhibits, the auditorium will screen train-themed films throughout the festival.
The lobby will transform into a family-friendly area with toy trains, Legos, and more.
Special limited-run layouts will be featured on select dates:
December 20–21 & 27: Tim Jordan's "Tribute to Seattle" layout
December 22–23: Steve Shores' "Sonoran Desert" layout
December 26–January 1: Northwest Pacific Z Scalers
December 29–30: Chris Smith's layout
Don't miss the chance to meet Seymour History, the museum's Olympic Marmot mascot, making appearances on December 19 and 26 at 11:00 AM and 2:00 PM.
Visitors are encouraged to bring non-perishable food donations for the "History Feeds Hope" community food drive.
Donors will have the opportunity to win a museum membership and an exclusive behind-the-scenes tour.
Admission to the festival is included with general museum entry.
Children aged 5 and under enter free.
