Plan Ahead: Navigating Thanksgiving Traffic on I-5, I-90, and US 2 |
WSDOT Releases Travel Forecasts to Ease Holiday Journeys |
As Thanksgiving approaches, travelers in Washington state should anticipate increased traffic on major highways, including Interstate 5, Interstate 90, and US Highway 2.
The Washington State Department of Transportation (WSDOT) has provided travel charts to help drivers plan their trips effectively.
For those traveling on I-5 between Lacey and Tacoma, the heaviest congestion is expected between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m. from Wednesday, November 26, through Monday, December 1.
To avoid delays, consider traveling early in the morning or later in the evening.
On I-90, particularly between North Bend and Cle Elum, peak traffic times are anticipated between 11 a.m. and 3 p.m. on most days during the holiday weekend.
Travelers are advised to hit the road before 10 a.m. or after 4 p.m. to minimize delays.
For those using US 2 near Stevens Pass, the busiest periods are expected between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. on Friday and Saturday for eastbound travel, and between 11 a.m. and 4 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday for westbound travel.
Outside of these times, traffic is projected to be light to moderate.
In addition to traffic considerations, weather conditions can impact travel plans.
For example, in Seattle, rain is forecasted for Wednesday, November 26, with a high of 52°F and a low of 46°F.
Similar conditions are expected on Thursday, November 27, with a high of 51°F and a low of 39°F.
Travelers should be prepared for wet roads and potential delays due to weather.
To ensure a smoother journey, WSDOT recommends consulting their holiday travel charts and planning trips during off-peak hours.
Additionally, staying informed about current road conditions and weather forecasts can help travelers navigate the holiday traffic more effectively.
By planning ahead and staying flexible, you can make your Thanksgiving travel experience more enjoyable and less stressful. |
